Welcome to my pitty party

The Yellow Ranger’s recipe for reducing riding time to almost nothing.

1) Take 1 part desire for a larger salary
2) Add opportunity from private company for traveling job
3) Mix desire and opportunity together; blend for 1 month
4) Accept traveling job whist trying to conceive offspring – mix thoroughly
5) Bake for 9 months while trying to maintain relationships and renovate bathroom
6) Serve with extra travel, be sure not to sleep

There you have it; the description of my life for the last year and a half. It’s rather pathetic how seldom I partake in the inspiration for my blog. I almost feel a fraud conceding to lecture the blogosphere on the proper methods and philosophies of motorcycle riding.

I think the sum total of my riding for the last year and a half is about 4000 miles. That’s probably being generous, but I don’t have my odometer handy, so that’s just a guess.

Right now, I’m not even sure if this post will actually make it into a real article. I’m 3 hours into a 5.5 hour flight from Charlotte to San Francisco and I’m too caffeinated to sleep. So rather than continue to be a corporate tool by performing more work (that would make about 45+ hours this week – its Thursday) I thought I’d try to fill the time with adding to my online knowledge base.

My blog has been an unexpected pleasure for me to write. My only beef with it at this point is that I hardly hear back from anyone who reads it. Ironically, I know via Google statistics that I’m approaching around 2000 page views over the last 9 months or so. That’s pretty good in my humble opinion – for a self promoted blog with absolutely no advertisements of any kind – except my own efforts to pimp out my blog via message board posts.

So far I started with a cliché attempt at clever humor and then I begged for attention. I must be really tired. I apologize for the off-topic post and promise to deliver something more motorcycle related later.

  1. Now, Now.... I find it thought provoking. It started me thinking about my riding..... and what I like to call my "Free Time" Account. I think we all have two accounts; 1) "I work to put food on the table and a roof over my head" account and 2) my "Free time " account. If you were to put these accounts on a scale/balance..... "Free time" on one side..... "I work to" on the other... most individuals would find their scale tipped into the "I work" side... with not much "Free time"...... However, there are those individuals who are able to balance the scale or EVEN tip the scale more into their "Free time" account. I find that it is the "Free time" that invigorates me and have been trying to "spend" more time there.... I find myself saying "How much is enough.... I don't need a lot of things" .... I want more "Free time" So, we've dipped into our "Free time " account big time this summer and are taking four weeks to tour on the bike. Sooooo excited!

  2. Gotta make time. It's important, you could stroke out tomorrow. You don't want to be at the end of it all saying, "I sure worked the hell out of that job!" do you? Well, that's just me.
